Holly Grove

The existing Grade II listed, semi-detached Victorian property is to be refurbished and extended at basement level to the rear.

Structural repairs are required to the existing property and these have been designed sympathetically to minimise their impact on the existing building fabric. For example, the gable wall has been found to be formed of separate brickwork skins that have undergone bowing over their lifetime. Subtle repairs will be carried out to tie the leaves together and to increase restraint to this wall.

The basement extension requires careful consideration of boundary conditions where abutting features include neighbouring buildings, gardens and trees. This is to be formed using a suspended concrete box supported on the underlying clay soils.
