Greville Street

A substantial storey height extension with a roof terrace formed part of the refurbishment works to this century old six storey office and retail building. The building is sited in the normally very busy Hatton Garden of Central London. This meant that access for material deliveries and scaffolding in particular were heavily constrained.

Extending the building meant that it was necessary to consider the integrity of the building with respect to disproportionate collapse. The substantial perimeter masonry piers were found to satisfy the robust requirements of the regulations with little need for additional vertical support. Horizontal perimeter steel ties were added to the upper floors to provide further restraint.

Carefully designed cantilever scaffolding provided access to the rear of the building that was not otherwise available.
